I’ve just been sent a campaign letter from John Mann to a Retford resident.

It begins:

As your MP, …

Oops! Last time I looked, Patrick Mercer was the MP for Retford.

Don’t you know who you represent, John?

Of course you do. It’s you.

I trust Patrick will make you retrieve all those letters immediately.

  1. Hes sent loads of these in Retford, and its not the first time hes said it. The people aren’t daft, but no wonder we think MPs are all cheats if they think they can keep getting away with stuff like this.

  2. You seem to have a personal grudge with John Mann.

All I know about him is that he worked hard to stop a hospital closure and to obtain more police for his constituents.

Now he is trying to help the people of Newark fight for our hospital because our useless seemingly uninterested MP is all promise and little action.

If John Mann was the MP for Newark and Retford we would have a representative, unfortunately, we have Patrick Mercer and I would not wish him on anybody.

Any MP that is willing to give his time to help another constituency cannot be all bad.

Please list what is so bad about John Mann.

    I wait upon your edification!

  4. John Holmes: Where to begin… Smoke & mirrors, lies and deception. It’s hard to prove a negative,as Mann well knows. It’s what he relies upon as he makes & repeats his false statements loudly.
    Headline “Save Bassetlaw A&E”
Fact: There were no plans (preliminary or advanced) to close it.
Result: Stress & distress for patients & staff believing they faced service & job cuts. A petition for Mann.
Headline: No to Wind Farm on land near Retford
Fact: No plans had been submitted (outline or full), nor have they since.
Result: Concerned residents & another petition.
Headline: Kerbside refuse collections under threat.
Fact: The council is reviewing provision of this service to the minority of residents whom it serves. Over 80% of Bassetlaw residents cannot access this service, but pay for it for those who can.
Result: Discontent from the few who get, and from the many who’ve discovered they’re paying for it. A lose-lose for the council; another petition.
Headline: More police for Notts force
Fact: Mann had no hand in this.
Result: Another notch on the “I claim this victory” bedpost.
Mann is a man who invents an issue – that’s INVENTS, not identifies – and then feeds the frenzy. Other people get damaged in the process.
I know only a little about Newark hospital, but my understanding is that the Newark (non) Campaign is a useful platform for the Labour candidate for Newark (a doctor I believe?)to seek publicity ahead of the election. Who better to guide him than the master of self-publicity from over the county border.
I have not seen him enter the fray with his own Govt on eg more funding for police or hospitals or care homes or schools. He does not vote against hs own party; yet claims to be “a lone voice in Westminster”. He is conspicuous by his absence on many high profile votes – the Ghurkas and Post Office Closures for instance. But don’t take my word for it – check out his voting record through “They Work For You”.
If you are as much a Labour man as I suspect, there is little chance of us agreeing over this, but others might reconsider your defence of this odious little Mann with the benefit of some proper research and fact-findng on any of his many hobby-horses.

  5. Is this guy serious about his chances of re-election!! He looks to me as a secondhand car dealer who would say anything to make a score!! (Boyce can learn a few tricks!!)

The American definition of him as a “Media Whore” just fits perfectly. Rather than carry on making a pratt of himself, he should dwindle into obscurity… before election time.

  6. @ John Holmes & Smee. Please note the turnout for the Newark hospital meeting was 17 people. Were either of you there?
